The Cheese Wheel
Playful design. Serious engineering. The Cheese Wheel is the more subversive, creative side of Grade 5 Materials.
Join the Drop List
Batch Alpha is 20 units, dropping Summer 2026. All 20 are individually serialized #1–20 — drop list gets priority checkout, so earliest signups have the best shot.
It's a design that doesn't take itself too seriously—until you feel the tolerances. Born from the idea that high-end EDC gear can be iconic, conversational, and fun without sacrificing a single ounce of machining precision.
The aesthetic is a nod to a classic—the "Swiss Cheese" geometry. But this isn't a novelty; those precision-milled holes aren't just for looks. They provide a unique tactile landscape for your fingers to track, creating a varied grip that feels different from every angle. A geometric playground that turns a recognizable shape into a masterpiece of Grade 5 Titanium.
One Tool. Two Dimensions of Play.
We didn't want to choose between a coin and a slider, so we built a platform that does both. The Cheese Wheel offers a dual-path tactile experience:
The Rotation: Utilizing the circular geometry, the Wheel provides a weighted, rhythmic spin that mimics the best haptic coins on the market. The holes act as natural speed-bumps for your thumb, giving you incredible control over the rotation.
The Slide: With a linear shift, the Wheel engages its slider tracks. The magnets provide a crisp, snappy "walk" that feels as satisfying as a bolt-action pen.
Patented Snap to Stealth™ Technology
The Cheese Wheel features our patented internal toggle, designed for the reality of your day-to-day life. You shouldn't have to carry two different fidgets just because you're heading into a meeting.
Snap Mode: Delivers the full mechanical experience. Loud, proud, and providing the heavy tactile snap that titanium enthusiasts crave.
Stealth Mode: A simple internal adjustment shifts the mechanism into a whisper-quiet state. Same smooth resistance without the acoustic signature—perfect for quiet environments.
A Modular Ecosystem
Like everything at Grade 5 Materials, the Cheese Wheel is part of a larger, modular platform. The internal components are designed to be swappable. If you own the Hubcap and the Cheese Wheel, you own a kit—swap toggles, cores, and plates to create gear that is uniquely yours.
Machined from Grade 5 Titanium and powered by N52 Neodymium magnets, the Cheese Wheel is a high-performance instrument in a whimsical disguise.
Questions
When does the drop go live?
Batch Alpha is 20 units, dropping Summer 2026. Every single unit is individually serialized #1–20 — no premium collector subset, no later "regular" units. Drop list members get the announcement and priority checkout window before anyone else. Once Alpha sells out, later batches (if any) won't be guaranteed at the same spec or price.
What's the deal with the serial numbers?
Every unit in Batch Alpha gets a unique serial #1–20 etched on it. There's no separate collector run and no "unmarked" units — all 20 carry the number, all 20 are the same spec. Order matters for which number you end up with: drop list gets priority checkout, so the earlier you sign up, the better your shot at the lower serials.
Why Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V)?
Grade 5 is the aerospace-grade titanium alloy used in jet engines and surgical implants. It's ~40% lighter than steel, essentially corrosion-proof, and machines to tolerances that make magnetic detent feel absurdly precise. The whole product exists because cheaper alloys feel wrong in the hand.
How loud is Snap Mode? Can I use it in an office?
Snap Mode is deliberately acoustic — you'll hear and feel the titanium-on-titanium engage. That's the whole point. Stealth Mode is the silent counterpart and is what you'd run during meetings or on a flight.
Is this compatible with the Haptic Hubcap?
Yes. Both products share the same internal platform — toggles, cores, and a subset of plates are swappable between them. Owning both means you can mix components to build a setup that's uniquely yours.
Where do you ship?
Worldwide. Shipping cost and timing are calculated at checkout and vary by destination. Drop list members get shipping details with the drop announcement.
Returns / warranty?
Every piece is inspected before it ships. Manufacturing defects are covered — reach out and we'll make it right. Because these are made-to-order limited batches, general returns are handled case-by-case.
